The story of American history is a drama, a comedy, and sometimes a farce of the most epic proportions. Join your ICDC friends on a journey of discovery as we explore the characters that make up the America.
The National Portrait Gallery explores in painting and art the variety of individuals of the past and present that continue to color American history. Leaders such as George Washington and Martin Luther King Jr., artists such as Mary Cassatt and George Gershwin, activists such as Sequoyah and Rosa Parks, and icons of pop culture such as Babe Ruth and Marilyn Monroe are the inspiration for these fantastic works of art. The Gallery is home to such iconic works as the official portraits of the American presidents, Shepard Fairey’s “HOPE” portrait of President Obama, and plaster cast of the head of Abraham Lincoln.
Meet your friends and new ICDC members in at the Courtyard Café in the magnificent Kogod Courtyard, a world-renowned glass-canopied courtyard at the center of the museum, for lunch before the tour.
The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery tells the history of America through individuals who have shaped its culture.
