Event Details

Discover the World's most ancient art and paintings - American, Ancient Egyptian, Ancient Near Eastern Art, Arts of the Islamic World, Biblical Manuscripts, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, South Asian, Southeast Asian. Please join us for our first private tour of the Freer Gallery of Art.

On our first tour, we will discover the highlights of the Freer Gallery of Art including American paintings by James McNeill Whistler, Ancient Egyptian Art, Chinese Art dating from Neolithic times (ca. 7000–ca. 2000 B.C.E.), Korean Ceramics, South Asian & Himalayan Art and others.

This is also a great opportunity to meet other ICDC members who appreciate art while enjoying a meal in the Smithsonian Castle cafe. Our tours are one of our most popular events and always sell out well in advance. Please reserve your tickets early.

Some of the art discussed may include:

American paintings by James McNeill Whistler
Historical range: 1855–1919

Ancient Egyptian Collection
Historical range: 2,500 B.C.E.– 400 C.E.

Ancient Near Eastern Collection
Historical range: 5,000 B.C.E.–651

Arts of the Islamic World
Historical range: early 9th–20th century

Chinese Collection
Historical range: Neolithic–present

Japanese Collection
Historical range: 2,500 B.C.E. to present (primarily 12th–19th century)

12:00PM: Meet us at the Smithsonian Castle Cafe for a relaxing lunch* to meet and socialize with other ICDC members. The Smithsonian Castle is located outside the Smithsonian Metro Station Mall exit. The tour starts promptly after lunch. If you need to reach us on the day of the event please call Sanjaya at (301) 580 7380.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU ARRIVE PROMPTLY AT THE DESIGNATED MEETING LOCATION. When you arrive look for the tables with ICDC signs. If you are not able to find us, wait by the "Smithsonian Castle Information Desk" and we will come and find you. We will then walk to the Freer & Sackler Galleries (adjacent to the Smithsonian Castle) for a highlights tour.

* Cost of lunch is not included in the ticket price.

The galleries are located on the National Mall, the grassy area between the Capitol and the Washington Monument, steps from the Smithsonian Metro stop. The nearest Metro stop is the Smithsonian Metro Station (Mall Exit). Public parking is limited to the surrounding streets and commercial garages.

The International Club of DC appreciates the cooperation of the Freer Gallery of Art in helping us organize tours of the gallery for ICDC members.
